Probably the simples trick for pinless attachments that we've found. It is a construction build in just three steps. Simple as that. But it has a lot of potential to teach you how to use pinless attachments. Pinless attachments are very useful during FIRST LEGO League and World Robot Olympiad competitions. 

This is the first type of an active geared attachment. "Active" means that is is power by a motor. "Geared" means that it use gears. "Reusable" means that you can easily extend the attachment with additional parts - eg - you can reuse it. It shows a basic principle of how power is transferred between different axles that have different orientation in space- like when one of the axles is horizontal and the other is vertical. This attachment accomplishes the Into Orbit Extraction mission from the FIRST LEGO League Into Orbit 2017-2018 competitions. The based of the robot is the SUV Competition Box Robot from LEGO Mindstorms EV3.

Background

If a satellite doesn’t have the correct velocity and distance from earth, it can fall, drift away, fail to function or get destroyed by debris. Propulsive adjustments need to be performed with precision.

Mission

The robot needs to move one or more satellites to the outer orbit.

Scores

• Move any part of a satellite on or above the area between the two lines of the outer orbit: 8 each
• Possible scores: 0, 8, 16, 24

Scoring Requirements

• Result must be visible at the end of the match.

Building instructions for the LEGO Mindstorms attachment using Rubber Bands

With this LEGO Education SPIKE Prime attachment we accomplish the basketball mission from the FIRST LEGO League 2020 RePlay competition. The goal of the mission is to put the ball into the basket and to have the basket up at the end of the round. This is a complex attachment. It uses gear wheels and warm gears to transfer the power from the motor to the top of the attachment. At the top of the attachment there is a wheel with a rope. The rope is build with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime parts. If you have the chance, use a different LEGO rope, but if you don't that this one will be ok.

This is a self aligning passive attachment for rendezvous and meeting between the tube module and the habitation hub.

Background

Gardening is easy, right? You just need a truckload of rich soil, some rain, sun, fertilizer, helpful bugs, CO₂ and a rake but what if you were orbiting Neptune, in a room the size of a minivan?

Mission

Move the push bar the right distance at the right speed, to get into the green scoring range.

Scores

• Spin the food growth chamber’s colours so the grey weight is DROPPED after green, but before tan, by moving the push bar: 16
• Possible scores: 0, 16

Scoring Requirements

• The result must be visible at the end of the match.
• Spin the food growth chamber’s colors must be spun by moving the push bar. > Only allowed method. Must be oberserved by the referee.
