Today students should construct a robot which looks like a motorcycle. This is a good time to discuss with them the physics behind the movement of bicycles and motorcycles.
Start the discussion by asking the following question: We all know that while riding a bike, we actually help it keep its balance by changing our weight to one direction and the other. Did you, however, know that if you push a bicycle downhill, without anyone riding it, it will still keep its balance? Has anyone tried/seen that?
You can show your students the following video and comment on it together:
Bring your students’attention to the fact that bicycles keep their balance due to steering in the same direction they have leaned which makes the bicycle go straight.
