• LEGO Education SPIKE Prime

We experimented with building a box robot powered entirely by chains—a unique approach inspired by the original LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Robots. Chains like these can be hard to find, but we thought: why not try to power both the robot and its attachments with them? This design not only powers the entire robot but also provides a great demonstration of how and when chains can be effectively used in robotics.

To build this robot, you'll need approximately 180 chain links (part 3711a), which are available in the NXT kits and some Technic sets.

Please note that this robot requires additional components beyond those included in the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime and SPIKE Essential kits. Check out the additional parts required.

This incredibly compact SPIKE Prime Box Robot is designed for competitions such as the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and World Robot Olympiad (WRO). Named Whakatae, derived from the Māori word "whakataetae," meaning "competitive," this robot measures 17 LEGO units in length and 15 LEGO units in width. It features two color sensors in front of the wheels for precise alignment, two large motors for movement, and two medium motors for attachments.

The best part? You can build this SPIKE Prime Box Robot using just the Base Set, an additional large motor, and a color sensor!

This attachment for the Nautiq robot is designed to accomplish M12 Feed the Whale in the FIRST LEGO League 2024‑2025 SUBMERGED competition. It demonstrates how to use mission models as part of a passive mechanical trigger and how to apply carabiner mechanisms for purposes other than locking.

This simple active pinless attachment for the Nautiq robot is designed specifically to accomplish mission M08 Artificial Habitat in the FIRST LEGO League 2024‑2025 SUBMERGED challenge. It offers a minimalist, efficient mechanism ideal for reliably completing the mission. No motors are required—setup is quick and intuitive. The compact design ensures stable performance and easy integration with the Nautiq robot.

This incredibly compact SPIKE Prime Box Robot is made for competitions like FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and World Robotics Olympiad (WRO). Whakatae (from Maori's word "whakataetae", which means "competitive") is long 17 LEGO units and is with a width of 15 LEGO units. In front of the wheels it has two color sensors which it uses to align. Whakatae also has two Large motors for moving and has two medium motors for attachments!

It's has "V2" in its name, because it's the second version of Whakatae - LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Competition Box robot. The difference between the two is that the first one can be built with only a Large Motor and a Color sensor in addition to the Base set, while this one needs an additional ball bearing. This provides this robot with a lot more stability and can be seen as a true upgrade to the first version.

This attachment for the Nautiq robot is designed to accomplish M10 Send over the Submersible in the FIRST LEGO League 2024‑2025 SUBMERGED competition. It uses a gear mechanism to lift a LEGO axle, allowing the submarine to slide to the other side.

This set of two attachments for the Nautiq robot is designed to solve multiple missions from the FIRST LEGO League 2024‑2025 SUBMERGED competition. It completes M05 Angler Fish, collects 4 Krills for M12 Feed the Whale, gathers all Reef Segments for M03 Coral Reef, and collects all Samples for M14 Sample Collection. The two-attachment design allows for efficient execution of multiple tasks in a single run.

The attachment helps the robot to delivers the water to the dam, releases the water in the Hydroelectric dam to produce energy, and delivers energy units to the energy storage. With this attachment, the robot accomplishes M03 ENERGY STORAGE, M11 HYDROELECTRIC DAM, and M12 WATER RESERVOIR from the FIRST LEGO League 2022-2023 SUPERPOWERED competition.

Larvy is a SPIKE Prime robot that moves like a larva or caterpillar. It uses a Large Motor to contract and expand its body, mimicking the crawling motion.

Using two Medium Motors, it rotates four wheels - tilting them sideways or upright as needed - so it can move forward!

Do you remember the Chain Monster Box Robot? This one is the same but without the chains. What is cool about this robot is you can use almost all Chain Monster attachments and build a lot more.

Calix comes from Latin, meaning cup.

Calix is a robot designed to carry small objects—like a cup—while autonomously following a black line. When most people think about robotics, they imagine machines helping with household chores. Calix is a simple example of that vision brought to life. You can place a cup on it in the kitchen, and it will deliver the cup to the end of the black line!

The robot is powered by two SPIKE Prime medium motors for movement, and it uses a color sensor to follow the line precisely. At the front, a large motor connected to a gear system lifts and lowers the cup, allowing for easy pickup and delivery.

Calix is an elegant demonstration of how even simple robots can be designed to perform useful tasks—making robotics more approachable and practical for everyday life.

The Swing Game is a SPIKE Prime robot designed as a two-player game. The goal is for both LEGO figures to reach the center of the swing without tipping it over to either side. Each LEGO figure is mounted on a motor connected to a Technic gear rack, allowing it to move along the swing. The motors are controlled separately—one by a color sensor and the other by a Large Motor. If one player moves too far ahead without the other keeping up, the swing will tip... and it’s game over! This is the attachment to accomplish Fll 2019 M06 mission with the Whakatae. You can see how to attach the attachment to the robot in this tutorial to do.

This is the robot that we use to demonstrate a solution for competition. This is a Post season solution. We never release any solutions during the season as this will have a negative impact on the competition. But after the competition we try to make a review and to see how we could have accomplish it. Our goal is to be better for next year.

This robot is quite powerful. The attachment mechanism on the front is one of a kind as it can do several things with a single motor: it can lift, it can unlock, it can grab. All of this thanks to the unique mechanism of gears

This is an active attachment with gears built from LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robotics set. The goal is to do a precise drop. The attachment could be used for both cargo items.
