In this video tutorial we demonstrate how the robot could accomplish the Power Switch mission. Power Switch consists of a cube with a lever and the lever should be rotate to 180 degrees. This mission model was very close to a FIRST LEGO League 2012 competition mission which was called - Oven. The robot, the attachment adn the mission model are built form a single LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor 51515 set and with the tutorial you will learn how to use an active attachment with 2 gear wheels to complete such missions.

How to use this tutorial
Download the program, follow the building instructions for the robot and the attachment and try to accomplish the mission. Modify the program with the team and the students to accomplish this mission model from different location making it ever more increasingly difficult. Spend 30 minutes until it is no longer possible to accomplish the mission in a consistent way. In this way you learn what are the limits.
In this video tutorial, we accomplished the Power Switch mission and this is the Power Switch mission model where we have to rotate the lever from the left to the right. That's the mission that the robots must accomplish with in the Power Switch mission model. For this mission, we are using a Lego Mindstorms Robot Inventor robot with an attachment that consists of two gear wheels and one lever. As you can see, this attachment is on the road. Let's see how it works. It's an active attachment which means that it's connected to the motor. We move forward, we activate the attachment and the idea here is that this lever that's connected the white beam that is connected at the end of the attachment will rotate the Power Switch. Looking at the attachment, it has two gear wheels. One of the gear wheels is positioned horizontally and the other is positioned vertically. In this way, the motor activates the black gear wheel. But the black gear wheel, it rotates the small gear wheel which then rotates the lever. Here is the Power Switch vision model and a few things that we will discuss here is how important it is for us to be precise, with the robot, it's a simple attachment, but the program could be developed in a very simple way or in a more complex way. And it's important especially with such simple attachments. To be precise, you see that we move with the attachment. We reach the mission model when we try to rotate the mission model. The mission model is not attached to the field. This means that the attachment will push on the mission model and we won't be able to accomplish the mission. It is really important for such mission models to somehow be attached to the field. Yes, we can, after several tries find a way to accomplish it without attaching it. But it gets difficult. And as you know, on FIRST LEGO League competition, all of the mission models, they are attached to the field. So when experimenting and we've seen this with other teams that are training always try to hold or to somehow attach the mission model in order to have a nice fun experience when looking at the course and looking at the different attachments. Again, simple attachment, attachment that I can remove even with a single hand. It's only a couple of parts and it's a general principle of how we build an active attachment where we take power from the motor and we transfer this power to a lever at the end of the attachment.
